As a parent, you want your children to experience everything that life has to offer. Unfortunately, that often takes some money. When you are trying to budget your money, you still want to give your children everything that you can.
Lucky for you, it doesn't always take money to spend quality time with your children. Here are some fun and free things that you can do with your children.
Spend time at a local playground.
No matter where you live, you should have at least one or two parks nearby. Spending time playing on a playground with your children can be a great way to relax and enjoy each other.
Have a picnic in the park.
Picnics are always fun. Whether you go to a park with a grill to make hot dogs and hamburgers or you bring your own picnic lunch, everyone enjoys getting outside to play and eat.
Go for a hike.
Going for a hike in a local park can serve multiple purposes. Not only are you spending time with your children (and your spouse), but you are also exercising (and showing your children the importance of exercise).
Many children love to play sports in their backyard (or at the local park). Grab a soccer ball or a baseball and gloves and head outside to play.
Watch movies at home.
Most people have a few movies laying around their home or a streaming service that offers movies. All you need to do is pop some popcorn in the microwave and settle in to spend time together.
Read books together.
Most children love to be read to. Even as they get older and can read themselves, they may still enjoy spending time listening to you read them their favorite story.
Spend time together crafting.
Many parents love to craft, even if they don't have time to do it as much as they would like. For this reason, you may want to involve your children in it so that you can do more of it.
Let them help you with the scrapbooking.
If you are a painter, let your children have their own canvas to paint. Is baking your thing? Let them help you bake and decorate cookies and cakes.
Make a fort in your living room.
You probably remember building forts out of blankets and boxes in your living room when you were young. It was always so much fun, and you may want to share the same experience with your children.
Take advantage of your local library.
Many local libraries offer fun things to do with your children. Take them to storytime and craft time when you can. If they have special guests (such as the bug man), make sure that you go to as many of them as you can. Your children (and you) will really learn a lot.
Visit a free museum or a zoo.
Many museums and zoos are free (or they have certain days of the week that they are free). You will be amazed at how many "expensive" places you can visit, without spending a dime, even though you may have to go on a different day than you normally would.
Just because you are watching your money doesn't mean that you can't have a good time with your children. There are many things that you can do that don't cost a thing – such as time spent together at the playground or even building forts in your own living room. Even watching movies, reading, and drawing together can be a great way to connect with your children. You should also take advantage of your local library, zoos, and museums. You may be able to get to experience some new things for free!
